Pretty much every restaurant knows how dirty their kitchen vent hoods can get over time. But some restaurants may not know that, because dirty vent hoods are a leading cause of fire for restaurants, federal law requires vent hoods to be cleaned periodically. If this cleaning is not done on a regular basis, fire marshals can issue tickets, and insurance companies may refuse to renew coverage.
Vent Hood Cleaning Services
Go with an experienced, trusted provider. Kanela Professional Kitchen Cleaning has been a vent hood cleaning specialist since 2007. We have a crew of trained, experienced professionals who can provide the level of service that your restaurant needs.
We start by providing manual scraping on the thickest layers of buildup on your equipment. This depends on the nature of your restaurant and the equipment you use. For instance, grills vs. flat top stoves can require different approaches. In addition, the type of food prepared in your kitchen can leave behind a unique residue that may require different tools to remove.
Once we’ve prepped the surface, we use a combination of superheated water (around 220°F) and industry-leading solutions to remove the remainder of the residue. As required by NFPA Schedule #96, we strip away the grease down to bare metal where possible.
- We’ve invested in the right gear. All of Kanela’s vehicles are equipped with mobile water heaters – all mixing of solutions is done with our equipment.
- We work around your schedule. All of our crews work after hours, meaning your restaurant schedule won’t be disrupted. Just let us in and we’ll do the rest.
- You will have evidence of our workmanship. We provide paperwork for documentation of regular cleaning services. And for every visit we make, we can provide before and after pictures to demonstrate our level of quality.
- For organizations requiring an exceptional level of service, we also provide kitchen cleaning services in LEED buildings.
We offer reasonable prices and complete satisfaction – With Kanela, the best is the least we can do.

Commercial Kitchen Hood Services
Kitchen exhaust cleaning involves more than cleaning: it is about reducing risk of fire in your premises. We are professionally trained to clean your restaurant’s complete system, including:
- Exhaust fan
- Duct and accessible portions of horizontal duct run
- Plenum, filters, and hood
When necessary, we use scrapers and a combination of solutions which, used with a high pressure hot water equipment, remove the grease from the system.
All equipment in the area surrounding the exhaust hood is covered with plastic. A plastic funnel is built to divert the water, degreaser, and grease from our cleaning process to a container for disposal. This prevents the grease from getting on the equipment and floor. On the roof, the technicians are responsible for cleaning a three-foot perimeter around the fan if any grease is dripping from the exhaust fans.
At the end of an exhaust cleaning service, all equipment that may have been affected by the cleaning process is wiped down, the floor in the service area is cleaned, and any grease that may have settled on the roof or parking areas is removed.
Our technicians will dry and when necessary shine the stainless components of the inside of the hood. And the fans are left “on” to dry out excess water.
We leave an after-service report, where we write if any deficiencies were found, if any areas were inaccessible as well as the general conditions of the service.
We provide a certificate of performance, which is posted at the hood as proof of service. It also states when it expires, letting you know when the next cleaning should be done.
The technicians will leave the kitchen area in as good or better condition than it was found.
